All you want to know about transfers
from barcelona airport (shuttle)
There is only one airport in Barcelona city, commonly known by the locals as “L’Aeroport del Prat”. Which now stands in over 300 hectares, since its last big expansion which ended in 2005.
Barcelona Airport is located 12 kilometres south-east of Barcelona city centre and 3km from Barcelona’s harbour (one of the most important in the Mediterranean Sea).
Barcelona airport is actually outside Barcelona City boundaries, in between the councils of “El Prat the Llobregat”, “Viladecans” and “Sant Boi".
Barcelona airport is divided into 3 main terminals, A, B and C. Depending on where you are coming from you may land in one or the other. But that’s not big deal as they are right next to each other.
There are a few ways you can get from Barcelona Airport to the city centre, let’s have a look at them so you can go by;
By Taxi
By Taxi is without doubt the fastest way to leave Barcelona Airport but not necessarily the fastest way to get to your destination. Barcelona, is a big modern city and has so much traffic that sometimes it can drive you nuts.
As you walk out of the main entrance of any of the terminals, there is always a long queue of taxis waiting to take you to your final destination.
The tariff differs between day and night, weekdays, weekends or Bank Holidays.
See detailed tariff list below;
Night-time, weekdays, from 21.00 to 07.00 (T1)
Saturday and bank holidays, from 00:00 to 24:00 (T1)
Daytime from 07.00 to 21.00 (T2)
Minimum fare: 1.30 € (T1 - 1.40 €)
Per kilometre: 0.74 € (T1 - 0.96 €)
To/from the airport: 3 €
Suitcase or similar (55x35x35 cm): 0.90 €
Pets: 1 €
There are taxis 24/7 all year long and they’ll always have change of a 20€ note (this is your right as a customer) but any bigger note than that, could cause you problems when paying, especially late at night.
You also have other rights such as choosing the route you prefer, a clean vehicle and driver, the choice of sound level (audio inside the taxi), the temperature level and a legal receipt (showing the date, license number, number plate, IVA identity number, which is the VAT or TAX number for those claiming expenses, plus the amount paid) .
The Taxi meter should be in a visible position and it should start at the beginning of the journey and stop as soon as you reach your destination, if the meter is not on you are not obliged to pay the minimum fare unless otherwise agreed before hand.
Eating, drinking and smoking are forbidden (note that smoking became illegal in any enclosed public place in Spain, in January 2006)
Taxi drivers have been obliged to accept guide dogs for blind people since 1993 by law.

Try to be at the bus stop about 10 minutes early, as the timetables are approximate and it always depends on traffic.
You can buy a ticket on board just try to have some change on you.
You must ring the bell for the driver to stop, if you don’t (or nobody else does) and there nobody is waiting on that stop, they driver will NOT stop there, if you don’t know where you have to get off, tell the driver which is your stop and he’ll let you know.
There are 2 stops in the airport, one in terminal B and the other in terminal C, so make sure you get off at yours or you’ll have to walk a bit.
By Train
The trains aren’t very different either, there are special trains that run from the airport to Barcelona city every 30 minutes from about 6:00 till 23:00. The Airport Railway station is only a few minutes walk from any terminal.
The trip takes around 30 minutes. The price depends on where you stop but getting to the centre will cost you 2’30 Є.
You can get straight into four of Barcelona’s main train stations offering connections to anywhere in Spain. Those are; “L’Estacio del Clot”, “Arc de Triomf”, “Plaça de Catalunya” and finally “Barcelona Sants” the busiest train station in Barcelona.

If you’ve got lots of luggage you’ll be happy to know that there's a lift that takes you onto a footbridge, where you can simply stand on a moving walkway to take you to the station if you’re too tired.
Be warned that you’ll need your ticket on arrival at your destination, so don’t throw your ticket away. While you can take your pets on local transport, they must be on a lead or in some sort of cage.
You can also take bicycles on the local train but there are some restrictions at peak times. You are allowed from Monday to Friday between 10:00 to 15:00 and all day at weekends and Bank Holidays.
Once on the train just make sure you get off at the right station.
Click here to see a map of all the Train Zones and Stations.
Important Update : Please note that due to the upgrading works needed for a new high speed train service to Barcelona city, there is a temporary change to the information above. However the disruption to the service should be minimal except all passengers will need to change trains at the first station after the airport, "El Prat de Llobregat". I'll keep updating you on the progress of the new high speed service and other train services.

Heading to Barcelona is quite easy, there is only one way you can leave Barcelona airport by car, follow the signs till you find the one for the C-31 or C-32 (towards Barcelona) these will lead you to the “Gran Via”, “Avinguda Diagonal”, “Ronda the Dalt” or “Ronda del Litoral” which are some of the main roads towards Barcelona from that side of the city.
Depending on where you are going you’ll need to take one or the other. If you plan to drieve in the city you’d better get hold of a good street map, remember Barcelona isn’t a small city (over 3 million people live there and most of them have cars)

The journey to the city could take about 20 minutes but that will depend on traffic conditions.
If you plan to stay in Barcelona city, I wouldn’t recommend hiring a car as it’d be more trouble than it’s worth and public transport can take you anywhere at anytime. However if you plan to visit the outskirts of the city, a car would be helpful.
For information about the state of the roads you can call the Traffic Information telephone on 900 123 505.
If you think you left something in any of Barcelona's public transports you should find it at “Barcelona City Council Lost & Found Office". Address: Carrer de la Ciutat, 9 baixos, 080002, Barcelona. Tel: 010/934023161. Or you can also contact them at objper-taxi@amb.es.
You can walk into the office from Monday to Friday, between 9 AM and 2 PM or you can call from Monday to Saturday, between 8 AM and 10 PM. just bear in mind that in August, Saturdays is closed.
To make things easier you’ll need this information; the date the object was lost, license number and number plate of the taxi (on the receipt), etc. Or if you notice shortly after your journey, you can call the taxi office to arrange collection.
